WHO is supporting almost all countries under the South Pacific office through the provision of training of health professionals and supporting framework in the province of Making Pregnancy Safer.
The recruitment of an SSA in the South Pacific in 2006 to facilitate activities and technical officer for Making Pregnancy Safer initiative is an indication of priority area within the WHO South Pacific Region.
In 2006 the UNFPA/ WHO co-sponsored a workshop for the South Pacific Nurses, Midwives, Doctors, Pharmacist and Health Planners in Fiji to address issues, activities on Family Planning commodities, Reproductive Health including Making Pregnancy Safer, HIV/ AIDS and Beyond the Numbers. Those trained were expected to be trainers in their countries. UNFPA will continue to assist its implementation and monitor the progress accordingly.
Making Pregnancy Safer is being looked at in totality where issues of reproductive health and neonatal health are addressed concurrently.
