5. Travel and transportation arrangements
September is peak season in New Caledonia and flights are very limited to and from Noumea. It is strongly encouraged that airline booking arrangements be made as early as possible. For easy reference, below are the entry and exit points to and from Noumea.

Arrival
New Caledonia's international and domestic airport is known as Tontouta Airport and is located 45 kilometres from Noumea city centre.
The host will assist all representatives on arrival and transport will be provided to their respective hotels. If representatives are unable to give advance notice to WHO of their expected time of arrival and are therefore not met at the airport, taxis and shuttle buses are available outside the terminal. A one-way Tontouta-Noumea trip costs approximately:
- By taxi: 9000 FCFP or US$ 95
- By shuttle bus: 2500 FCFP or US$ 27
Most taxi drivers speak English.
For easy identification upon arrival at the airport, representatives are requested to wear the lapel labels which are provided herewith. Luggage tags are also provided to avoid any inconvenience in the airport upon arrival.
Departure
Transport from the hotel to the airport will be provided for representatives scheduled to depart not later than Sunday, 25 September 2005. However, representatives who will be extending their stay should make their own transport arrangements to the airport.
The departure time from the different hotels to the airport will be posted at the WHO desk located at the lobby of each hotel.
On departure from Noumea, no airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at Tontouta Airport as tax is included in the airline ticket.
