The Regional Committee,
Recalling resolution WHA51.23 adopted by the Fifty first World Health Assembly amending Articles 24 and 25 of the WHO Constitution so as to increase the membership of the Executive Board from 32 to 34 seats, with one of its express purposes being to increase the number of seats allocated to the Western Pacific Region from four to five;
Recognizing, however, that the said amendments will only come into force when accepted by two thirds of the Members of WHO through the deposit of a formal instrument of acceptance with the Secretary General of the United Nations;
- URGES Member States of the Western Pacific Region, particularly those currently represented on the Executive Board:
- to encourage Member States of the other WHO regions who have not already done so to deposit as soon as possible their instruments of acceptance of the amendments of Articles 24 and 25 as adopted in resolution WHA51.23;
- REQUESTS the Regional Director:
- to urge the Regional Directors of the other regions concerned to encourage Member States of their respective regions to deposit their instruments of acceptance as soon as possible.
