13. Electricity and water
Local voltage is 220 volts at a frequency of 50 cycles. Adaptors can easily be bought and hotels have multi-voltage fittings for electric shavers. Tap water in the hotels is drinkable and bottled water is widely available.
14. Telephone/fax/telex
Local calls from private phones are free. Calls from public booths are MOP 1 or US$ 0.13. International direct dialling (IDD) calls can be made to 219 countries. Fax, telex, telegraph, data, Internet access and satellite TV services are available. The international dialling code for Macao is 853. When calling Hong Kong from Macao, dial the prefix 00 852 or 00 01 and calling Macao from Hong Kong dial 00 853.
15. Local transport
Macao has an extensive public transport system. Speedy harbour ferries operate 24 hours a day, whisking visitors between Hong Kong and Macao. The 60-km journey across the busy Pearl River estuary takes an hour or less. Taxis, hire-cars, buses and pedicabs are readily available.
