The Regional Committee,
Having considered the report of the Sub-Committee of the Regional Committee on Programmes and technical Cooperation, Part III, on renewing the strategy for health for all and the global document Health for All in the Twenty-first Century, *
Appreciating the value of the work of the Sub-Committee to Member States and the Regional Committee;
- ENDORSES the report of the Sub-Committee;
- REQUESTS the Regional Director:
- (1) to improve WHO's policy development capacity at the regional level;
- (2) to strengthen dialogue with international partners in the Region;
- (3) to support national capacity assessment and capacity building in order to facilitate implementation of Health for All in the Twenty-first Century;
- (4) to clarify the meaning of health-for-all values and define their operational implications at all levels of WHO's collaboration with Member States of the Region, in particular:
- - Equity, with a special emphasis on reduction of poverty;
- - Gender equity;
- - Quality, particularly as it relates to public health programmes;
- (5) to work with Member States to strengthen information systems at country level and to revise the current evaluation system;
- (6) to submit the report of the Sub-Committee to the Director-General as a summary of Member States' concerns with regard to the implementation of the document Health for All in the Twenty-first Century in the Region.
