The Regional Committee,
Having considered the report of the Sub-Committee of the Regional Committee on Programmes and Technical Cooperation, Part IV, on the review of the WHO Constitution, including regional arrangements;*
Appreciating the value of the work of the Sub-Committee to Member States and the Regional Committee;
Noting the need for Article 2 of the WHO Constitution to reflect current realities and for it to be able to accommodate additional functions in future;
Noting further the need to keep the criteria for candidates and selection methods and procedures for the nomination of the Regional Director under review;
- REQUESTS the Regional Director to convey to the Director-General its approval of the revision of the text of Article 2, and to transmit for further consideration the Sub-Committee's two proposals for further changes and the addition of a new section 5(a) to read "accessibility to health care", with subsequent sections to be renumbered;
- DECIDES that the Sub-Committee of the Regional Committee on Programmes and Technical Cooperation should re-examine the criteria for candidates and selection methods and procedures for the nomination of the Regional Director and make recommendations to the Regional Committee during its fiftieth session.
