The Regional Committee,
Having considered the Regional Director's progress report on the implementation of New horizons in health;*
Noting the way in which the Member States are implementing the concepts and approaches through Healthy Cities and Healthy Islands activities and other country-specific initiatives;
Reaffirming the approaches of New horizons in health as the Region's response to global change and contribution to renewal of the health-for-all strategy;
- URGES Member States:
- (1) to continue their development of relevant integrated activities which will bring about the objectives of New horizons in health;
- (2) to work closely with the Regional Office in the development of sets of indicators relevant to each country's own specific health situation, as part of the development of a regional minimum set of indicators;
- REQUESTS the Regional Director:
- (1) to continue to advocate the concepts and approaches of the document at every opportunity throughout the Region and the Organization;
- (2) to continue to support the development of a relevant set of regional indicators, and to work with countries to develop country-specific indicators;
- (3) to provide financial and technical support wherever possible to the country initiatives which reflect the priorities of New horizons in health;
- (4) to provide a progress report to the Regional Committee at its forty-eighth session.
