The Regional Committee,

         Having considered the report of the Regional Director on the development of health Research;*

         Recalling resolution WPR/RC44.R14 on the development of health research;

1. ENDORSES the recommendations of the Western Pacific Advisory Committee on Health Research (WPACHR) at its fifteenth session;
2. URGES Member States:

   (1) to undertake priority health research, the results of which can immediately be applied for countries' benefit;

   (2) to establish a national focal point to coordinate and manage health research activities, if this does not already exist;

3. REQUESTS the Regional Director, subject to availability of resources:

   (1) to implement the WPACHR recommendations;

   (2) to continue to support individual and group research training activities;

   (3) to support research proposals in priority areas;
   
   (4) to consult with Member States on the draft five-year Strategic Plan for Health Research in the Region.
