Quality Assurance in Health Services

         The Regional Committee,

         Having reviewed the Regional Director's progress report on quality assurance in health services;*

         Noting the significant progress that has been made by Member States since the 1992 report in increasing awareness of the importance of quality of care in the planning and implementation of health services;

  1. URGES Member States:
    (1) to further strengthen their policies and strategies on quality assurance;
    (2) to continue to provide a wide variety of learning opportunities for health workers on quality assurance;
    (3) to increase their efforts to share experiences on progress in implementing quality assurance activities with other countries;
  2. REQUESTS the Regional Director:
    (1) to cooperate with Member States in devising programmes that promote quality of care as a component of health development;
    (2) to support the training of health personnel in quality assurance;
    (3) to facilitate the exchange of information among Member States on their experiences in implementing quality assurance programmes.
