Report of the Sub-Committee on Programmes and Technical Cooperation, Part I
The Regional Committee,
Having considered Part I of the report of the Sub-Committee on Programmes and Technical Cooperation on its visits to American Samoa, Japan, and Samoa;*
- TAKES NOTE of the findings and endorses the recommendations of the Sub-Committee in relation to WHO's collaboration in the areas of health information systems and health informatics, with particular regard to:
- (1) the need for Member States to develop a comprehensive national plan for health information system development;
- (2) the need for assuring the availability of reliable and accurate health statistics prior to the introduction of informatics technology;
- (3) the need to strengthen health information systems and health informatics in Member States through technology transfer and support for appropriate training;
- THANKS the Sub-Committee for its work;
- REQUESTS the Regional Director:
- (1) to take the Sub-Committee's findings and recommendations into consideration in developing future programmes of cooperation in these fields;
- (2) to report to the Regional Committee at its fortieth session on the extent to which the Sub-Committee's recommendations are implemented;
- REQUESTS the Sub-Committee, as part of its terms of reference in 1989, to review and analyse the impact of WHO's cooperation with Member States in relation to the Expanded Programme on Immunization.
