The Regional Committee,
Recalling resolutions WHA33.32, WHA34.22, WHA3S.26, WPR/RC32.R11, WPR/RC33.R16 and WPR/RC34.R18;
Having reviewed the report of the Regional Director on infant and young child nutrition and implementation of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes;**
Noting that, notwithstanding the measures initiated by Member States to improve infant and young child nutrition, the prevalence of breast-feeding is very low, especially in many urban areas;
- URGES Member States:
- (1) to intensify national efforts directed towards the improvement: of infant and young child nutrition, including the adoption of suitable measures to give effect to the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes;
- (2) to report at regular intervals on the progress made in their national efforts;
- REQUESTS the Regional Director to cooperate particularly in breast-feeding promotion, in the exchange of information, and in training and research activities.
