The Regional Committee,

         Having considered Part I of the report of the Sub-Committee on the General Programme of Work;*

1. NOTES the views expressed by members of the Sub-Committee after their further review of activities at country level relating to the International Drinking-Water Supply and Sanitation Decade;
2. NOTES further:

   (1) the observations made by members of the Sub-Committee after their preliminary review of activities in two selected countries relating to community participation in health development;

   (2) the views of the Sub-Committee on the future direction to: be taken to ensure active community involvement in health development in order to implement strategies for health for all by the year 2000 through primary health care;

3. REQUESTS the Regional Director to take the Sub-Committee's views into consideration in developing future programmes of cooperation;
4. REQUESTS the members of the Sub-Committee to continue to:

   (1) review and analyse the impact of WHO's collaboration with Member States;

   (2) undertake whatever preliminary tasks may be necessary in order to facilitate the review, monitoring and evaluation by the Regional Committee of strategies for health for all by the year 2000;

   (3) review progress in implementing the recommendations of the study of WHO's structures in the light of its functions, in accordance with the established plans of action.
