The Regional Committee,

         Having reviewed the report submitted by the Regional Director;*

         Having considered inter alia that cholera immunization of travellers, using the vaccine present available, will not prevent the spread of cholera;

1. NOTES the outline for a regional programme in diarrhoeal diseases control;
2. URGES Member States to strengthen their programmes in diarrhoeal diseases control;
3. REQUESTS the Regional Director to extend all possible support to Member States to enable them to establish programmes or strengthen existing programmes;
4. FURTHER URGES Member States to maintain vigilant surveillance for cholera and to take prompt action if it is detected.
