Diarrhoeal Diseases

         The Regional Committee,

         Having considered the statement on diarrhoeal diseases other than cholera made by the Representative of the United Kingdom and the subsequent discussion;

         Agreeing to the importance of the subject due to the high mortality and morbidity caused and the interrelationship between diarrhoeal disease and malnutrition;

  1. REQUESTS the Regional Director to stimulate interest among Member States in preventive measures, treatment, the training of relevant health personnel and research through all appropriate means, including the scheduling of a technical presentation on the subject at the twenty-ninth session of the Regional Committee, at which time a report will be presented describing the status of diarrhoeal disease problems in the Region and programmes presently directed towards their solution;
  2. FURTHER REQUESTS the Regional Director to intensify the World Health Organization's efforts in the Western Pacific Region in the control of diarrhoeal diseases, particularly in childhood.
