The Regional Committee,

         Having considered the report submitted by the Regional Director on the WHO Serum Reference Bank in Tokyo, *

1. NOTES the importance role that such banks play, particularly in epidemiological surveillance;
2. EXPRESSES its satisfaction that a WHO Serum Reference Bank has been established in Tokyo and that its services will be available to countries in the Region;
3. URGES countries and territories in the Region to take advantage of the facilities offered by the WHO Serum Reference Bank;
4. THANKS the authorities in Japan for making this service available to the Region and for their generous gesture in offering to pay for the transportation of samples until further notice.
