Health Consequences of Smoking

         The Regional Committee,

         Having considered the report of the Regional Director on the health consequences of smoking, **

         Recalling the resolutions on this subject adopted by the Twenty-fourth World Health Assembly and by the Regional Committee at its twenty-second session, ***

         Noting the antismoking action being taken by governments in the Region and the different measures used to control the problem;

         Believing that further and sustained efforts by health and education authorities are needed to reduce cigarette smoking, particularly among young persons,

  1. THANKS the Regional Director for his report;
  2. ENDORSES the recommendations contained therein;
  3. INVITES governments in the Region to put these recommendations into effect.
