Protection of the Pre-School Child
The Regional Committee,
Having studied the report of the Regional Director on the protection of the pre-school child,
- NOTES that in many countries in the Region the mortality rate of pre-school children is high and that it compares unfavourably with the infant and maternal mortality rates;
- EMPHASIZES the need for extending and improving the health services provided for the pre-school child, with particular attention being paid to improved nutrition, the establishment of pre-school welfare clinics, and the intensification of immunization programmes;
- RECOMMENDS that maternal and child health services should be broadened to include adequate measures to improve the health of the pre-school child.
