Annual Report of the Regional Director
The Regional Committee,
Having reviewed the eleventh annual report of the Regional Director, which covered not only the activities during the period 1 July 1960 to 30 June 1961 but also summarized the main developments in the health field during the first decade of the Regional Office,
- NOTES with satisfaction:
- (1) the progress which has been made in the health field during the past ten years;
- (2) the yearly increase in the number of fellowships awarded;
- (3) the attention being given to activities in the field of nutrition;
- EMPHASIZES the importance of:
- (1) a flexible approach to programme planning, bearing in mind the great differences in the socio-economic development of the countries in the Region;
- (2) the development of rural public health services as part of a comprehensive and integrated health programme;
- (3) the co-ordination of preventive and curative services in the field of maternal and child health;
- EXPRESSES the hope that the promotion of mental health will receive the necessary recognition in the long-range health programme;
- SUGGESTS that leprosy should be an early subject for the Technical Discussions;
- CONGRATULATES the Regional Director and his staff on the preparation of a comprehensive and detailed report, which provided an excellent summary of activities over the last ten years;
- ADOPTS unanimously the report.
